Damnat is a new work by Teo Ala-Ruona and collaborators, continuing Ala-Ruona’s long-standing artistic exploration of how systems of classification and language shape our understanding of the body, both from within and from the outside.
At the centre of the work is a performative practice in which the body moves, produces sound, and undergoes metaphysical transformations through dance and embodied states. The practice seeks to empty the body of imposed language and the categorising power that language carries with it.
Damnat is jointly commissioned by Zodiak – Center for New Dance and is a co-production between Toaster in Copenhagen and Kanuti Gildi SAAL in Tallinn. The work will premiere at Pannuhalli at Dance House Helsinki in May 2027.
