Part of Toaster Performance Biennale 2026
A revealing dance. An opening show.
Slit Show cuts through the masquerade of the exterior and slides along the slits to the interior. It’s a dance for a theater and an open mouth. A tease for the space between curtains and coming. An inner song longing to be shown.
Through removal of clothing, erratic moaning and deep opera, the performer strips down and exposes inner states in the theater spotlight. Somewhere between erotics and entries, maskings and unmasking, sensing and exhibiting, a sincere show reveals itself from the curtains.
Who’s that slit? It’s the girl with no door on her mouth!
In the solo Slit Show the main character might be revealingly alone on stage. But she is accompanied by multitudes of loud representations and inner voices in an unexpected mash-up of moaning, stripping and opera singing. Dispersed deep red velvet curtains load the room with connotations and promises of drama, peaks and pathos. From this seemingly self aware and hyper staged setting, the main character brings the audience on an introverted journey from outside in.
Slit Show at Toaster Performance Biennale is a special edition performed by Emilie Gregersen
Karis Zidore (she/her) is a choreographer and composer based in Copenhagen. At the intersection between body, voice and sound her choreographic practice moves between loaded images and heartfelt sensations. Often departing from gendered expressions in an attempt to tease, disrupt and reshape. Karis has collaborated with a.o. choreographers Emilie Gregersen, Marie Topp, Olivia Riviére and Lisen Pousette. She has presented works at a.o. Dansehallerne, Det Frie Felts Festival, Den Frie Udstilling and The Acropolis Museum. She is a co-founding member of Danseatelier, and the artistic director and curator of thecarrierbag festival together with Emilia Gasiorek.
In April 2026, Toaster presents Denmark’s first international performance biennale, taking place across Den Frie and Husets Teater.
The biennale offers a current portrait of the performance field within both visual art and performing arts – and the many intersections between them – which are rapidly evolving nationally as well as internationally. The focus is state of the art: taking the temperature of the field right now.
Experience more than 20 performances, including 10 entirely new works created specifically for the biennial. The artists range from established performance practitioners to emerging talents – sometimes within the same work.
The programme encompasses works rooted in dance, text, costume, sound, light, music, and space. Performance is here and now – it is the time we live in, and the time we choose to spend together.
