Art in society – Society in art

How can art engage with social issues? And should artists and cultural institutions take responsibility for addressing some of the challenges our society is facing?

Sir Grand Lear and Toaster took on the task of tackling inequality in the Danish tax system by democratizing access to tax havens. The result is a mockumentary created by Henrik Grimbäck, who closely followed the project as a documentarian.

In addition to screening the film How to Put Your Money in a Tax Shelter, we will hear from Lea Burrows of Sir Grand Lear—who initiated the project together with Thomas Hwan—about her criteria for when an art project can be considered a success. Dina Vester Feilberg will share perspectives on the Bikuben Foundation’s efforts to give art a stronger role in society, and Gro Frank Rasmussen will speak about literature’s potential to drive social change.
