Workshop with Colette Sadler
Offered in collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts – Schools of Visual Arts and the Danish National School of Performing Arts – Continuing and Further Education.
Experience Colette Sadler’s work ARK 1 at Toaster’s Performance Biennial 2026, and gain unique insight into her artistic choices, expressions, and working methods in this 3-hour workshop.
The workshop is based on seven existential questions that not only explore Colette Sadler’s individual working methods and artistic expression, but also invite you to reflect on your own creative processes:
- What methods do you use in your work?
- How do you come up with ideas for projects?
- What kinds of experiments do you conduct during your process?
- How do you generate material?
- What inspires your work?
- How do you decide which material to use from your experiments?
- What criteria do you use when selecting your material?
ABOUT COLETTE SADLER
Colette Sadler is a Scottish dancer, choreographer, and cross-disciplinary artist. Trained at The Laban Centre in London, she has worked internationally as a dancer with choreographers such as Vicente Saez and Amanda Miller.
Sadler’s choreographic works have been presented in a wide range of international dance and art contexts, including Tanz Im August in Berlin, Southbank Centre in London, Performatik Festival at Kaai Theatre in Brussels, Art Night London, Nottingham Contemporary, Les Latitudes Contemporaines in France, OGR in Turin, British Council Showcase, Nordic House Reykjavik in Iceland, and Tokyo Festival in Japan.
Her practice sits at the intersection of dance, sculpture, and digital art. Her cross-disciplinary performances often explore the relationship between the human and the non-human, as well as the connection between real and virtual spaces. In her works, she stages bodies and identities in transformation, creating transitions between reality and virtuality through fiction.
Since 2016, she has developed Present Futures, a series of curatorial events exploring speculative futures and posthumanism, in collaboration with The Centre for Contemporary Art in Glasgow, UK.
COLETTE SADLER AT THE BIENNALE
ARK 1 explores the uncertain future of human culture amid the life-altering interventions of artificial intelligence and an ecological crisis. Participants in the workshop will include a mix of students from the art academy and professional performing artists from across disciplines who are interested in performance.
