Workshop with Marthe Ramm Fortun
Offered in collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts – Schools of Visual Arts and the Danish National School of Performing Arts – Continuing and Further Education.
Experience Marthe Ramm Fortun’s work Assuming Spring will Cum: Tropes of Sadness! at Toaster’s Performance Biennial 2026, and gain unique insight into her artistic choices, expressions, and working methods in this 3-hour workshop.
The workshop is based on seven existential questions that not only explore Marthe Ramms Fortun’s individual working methods and artistic expression, but also invite you to reflect on your own creative processes:
- What methods do you use in your work?
- How do you come up with ideas for projects?
- What kinds of experiments do you conduct during your process?
- How do you generate material?
- What inspires your work?
- How do you decide which material to use from your experiments?
- What criteria do you use when selecting your material?
ABOUT MARTHE RAMM FORTUN
Marthe Ramm Fortun (NO) lives and works in Oslo, Norway, where she is an adjunct professor at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Fortun graduated from the University of the Arts London; New York University, New York; and HISK – Higher Institute for Fine Arts, Ghent.
Her work has been presented in numerous group exhibitions and biennials in Norway and internationally, including Kistefos Museum, Jevnaker; Musée d’Art Contemporain, Montreal; Monnaie de Paris, Paris; Gladstone Gallery, Brussels; Vigeland Museum, Oslo; Komplot, Brussels; Performatik, Brussels; and Performa, New York.
MARTHE RAMM FORTUN AT THE BIENNALE
What is the origin of this decaying body, bound in festive red and white police tape? Mother and child recycled as terrorists, when they are not cast in bronze or carved in marble? Off with his head! Spring buds burst violently from the repeated burials of schools and hospitals. This art hall is built on maternal bones. Tropes of sorrow! Mothers and children continue tomorrow as well. Pink, leafy climbing plants of 2026! Come out, come out, wherever you are. Let us play hide-and-seek in the rotunda, as if spring has bloomed once again!
With a gust of wind through the rotunda and out the exit door, Marthe Ramm Fortun signs temporary audience contracts with tears and kisses. Each performance is unique, presenting individual, site-specific texts and movements. Each presentation lasts twenty minutes. Read more.

PARTICIPANTS
Participants in the workshop will include a mix of students from the art academy and professional performing artists from across disciplines who are interested in performance.
