ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

Reba Maybury will perform a new lecture for Toaster based on the language used by the male consumers of sex workers in Copenhagen. The lecture will present the audience with a large yet curated selection of the usernames these men make, collected and then discussed with the audience by Maybury. This will be an interactive performance, and the audience will have the opportunity to exercise their democratic right to vote.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Reba Maybury (UK/DK) is an artist, writer and dominatrix sometimes working under the name Mistress Rebecca who has exhibited and taught internationally. Her work explores the tension between her perceived strength as an object of fantasy and how through the reality of sex work she attempts to turn this power into something tangible. Much of her art practice is physically created by her submissive’s through her direction as a way to further the complicated imbalances of labour under sex work, gender and entitlement and an attempt to empower her further than the mens desires, leaving her with more than just a payment from them.

TOASTER PERFORMANCE BIENNALE

In April 2026, Toaster presents Denmark’s first international performance biennale, taking place across Den Frie and Husets Teater.

The biennale offers a current portrait of the performance field within both visual art and performing arts – and the many intersections between them – which are rapidly evolving nationally as well as internationally. The focus is state of the art: taking the temperature of the field right now.

Experience more than 20 performances, including 10 entirely new works created specifically for the biennial. The artists range from established performance practitioners to emerging talents – sometimes within the same work.

The programme encompasses works rooted in dance, text, costume, sound, light, music, and space. Performance is here and now – it is the time we live in, and the time we choose to spend together.
