Assuming Spring will Cum: Tropes of Sadness!

by

Marthe Ramm Fortun (NO)

Part of Toaster Performance Biennale 2026

About the performance

What is the provenience of this rotten body, bondaged in festive red and white police tape? Mother and child repurposed as terrorists when not cast in bronze or chiseled in marble? Off with his head! Spring blossoms emerge violently from the repeated burials of schools and hospitals. This art center is built on maternal bones. Tropes of sadness! Mothers and children are still at it tomorrow. Pink petal crooks of 2026! Cum out cum out wherever you are. Let’s play hide and seek in the rotunda as if spring has sprung again!

Breezing through the rotunda through the exit door, Marthe Ramm Fortun signs temporary audience contracts with tears and kisses. Each performance is unique and presents individual, site specific texts and movements. Each presentation lasts twenty minutes.

The project is supported by Office for Contemporary Art Norway.

Toaster Performance Biennale

In April 2026, Toaster presents Denmark’s first international performance biennale, taking place across Den Frie and Husets Teater.

The biennale offers a current portrait of the performance field within both visual art and performing arts – and the many intersections between them – which are rapidly evolving nationally as well as internationally. The focus is state of the art: taking the temperature of the field right now.

Experience more than 20 performances, including 10 entirely new works created specifically for the biennial. The artists range from established performance practitioners to emerging talents – sometimes within the same work.

The programme encompasses works rooted in dance, text, costume, sound, light, music, and space. Performance is here and now – it is the time we live in, and the time we choose to spend together.
