ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

This performative live version of the sound piece English Speakers – a personification of the “world language” English as a British female voice – plays excerpts from the sound piece and speaks to it: What does the pre-recorded sound work project onto the performer as a medium for the English language? How is the language used by the narrator/scriptwriter, stiffened in universalism and pre-recorded phrases, turned against itself?

(I need to talk to) English Speakers is a living poem, a shimmering wordplay between body and language.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sara Hamming (DK) is a performance artist and performance writer working from Moribund Performance with versionings and upcyclings of performances, including the work series Tabt Titel / Lost Title. Through performance she has created herself a body in order to generate memories. She has hearing loss and works with the feedback of hearing aids in performance.

TOASTER PERFORMANCE BIENNALE

In April 2026, Toaster presents Denmark’s first international performance biennale, taking place across Den Frie and Husets Teater.

The biennale offers a current portrait of the performance field within both visual art and performing arts – and the many intersections between them – which are rapidly evolving nationally as well as internationally. The focus is state of the art: taking the temperature of the field right now.

Experience more than 20 performances, including 10 entirely new works created specifically for the biennial. The artists range from established performance practitioners to emerging talents – sometimes within the same work.

The programme encompasses works rooted in dance, text, costume, sound, light, music, and space. Performance is here and now – it is the time we live in, and the time we choose to spend together.
