The Shadow Whose Prey the Hunter Becomes
by
Back to Back Theatre
International play at CPH STAGE 2025. Curated and presented by CPH STAGE, Toaster & REPUBLIQUE.
The award-winning Australian company Back to Back Theatre is visiting Denmark for the very first time with their performance THE SHADOW WHOSE PREY THE HUNTER BECOMES. The production questions how we, as a democratic society, can make the right decisions. It reminds us that no one is self-sufficient, and everyone has a responsibility.
The performance tells the story of a public meeting where three individuals discuss what to do about their “situation.” Through misunderstandings and misinterpretations, the meeting gradually shifts focus to how society treats neurodivergent individuals. Addressing themes such as human rights, sex, gender, and artificial intelligence, Back to Back Theatre sharpens our focus on both the individual and the collective.
Back to Back Theatre has gained widespread national and international recognition for their work in inclusive theatre. The company comprises actors who all identify as having intellectual disabilities or being neurodivergent. While they describe their practice as an affirmation of human potential, they are now regarded as one of Australia’s most important cultural contributors.
