Part of the performance program Acting In & Out. Performance: Lesions by Jules Fischer. Collective manifestation: Luka Holmegaard & Cosmos Acupuncture.
LESIONS
Lesions consists of a monologue lip-synced in interaction with an intense, almost autonomous light design and a beautiful saxophone soundtrack. The monologue samples from various texts, TV series, and films, focusing on the construction of gender and a latent desire for love that lies behind the seemingly angry speech.
Lesions is a 25-minute loop.
ABOUT JULES FISCHER
Jules Fischer graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2017 and has also studied dance and choreography at the Danish National School of Performing Arts, as well as Art and Social Practice at Portland State University. Their practice revolves around collage-like, large-scale performance works. Jules is interested in fundamental emotions such as love, grief, and loneliness, viewed from an ambivalent and queer perspective. In collaboration with talents from various disciplines, Jules has created works for institutions such as Glyptoteket, SMK, and Arken. In 2023, they were awarded a 3-year working grant from the Danish Arts Foundation.
COLLECTIVE MANIFESTATION: LUKA HOLMEGAARD & COSMO’S ACUPUNCTURE
In addition to the performance, there will subsequently be a collective manifestation with invited guests, who focus on the audience’s thoughts and room for action in relation to the theme of the performance.
This evening will be about collective care. Luka Holmegaard will read from his writing and talk about how his work relates to themes of body, community and activism. Cosmo Soltani from Cosmos Acupuncture will offer the audience acupuncture as a way of anchoring the conversation in the body. Together we will talk about art and body care as an activist and community-building practice. Parts of the conversation will be in English.
The collective manifestations are organized in collaboration with Ph.D. Storm Møller Madsen from the Department of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen.
ABOUT ACTING IN & OUT – PERFORMANCE AND ACTIVISM
Acting In & Out is an interdisciplinary program with artists from both the performing arts world and the visual arts world, who over four weeks at Husets Teater examine the framework for staging contemporary narratives.
Toaster presents four Danish groups/artists who all challenge the status quo and are concerned with socio-political issues both on the external and internal level. Nature and bodies, stretched out and up against economy, climate, gender and other power structures.
Each evening, in addition to the performance, there will be a collective manifestation with invited guests, who focus on the audience’s thoughts and room for action in relation to the theme of the performance. There will be reading aloud, embroidery, acupuncture, dragon building and choral singing in a safe space, where the audience is guided and met in a common conversation about what concerns us and where there is room for difference, doubt, hope and action!
Toaster sends a big thank you to OPE-N, S/H, and Greenpeace for the collaboration on Shout and Efter Festen, which have been instrumental and invaluable projects in the creation of Acting In & Out.
