Satan

Double-bill with 'The Iceflake' by Jessie Kleemann

Iggy Malmborg challenges the discomfort of not being able to distinguish true from false or hero from villain. We live in particularly uncertain times in relation to the ethical values which we claim to build our society around and the way we live by them.

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

In SATAN, the Swedish actor Iggy Malmborg allegedly tells the true story of his short life and his problems in six chapters and a prologue. It is a bumpy road that takes him from a deeply Christian family out in the Swedish countryside, through friendships, sins and homelessness to Husets Teater in Copenhagen. But at the same time, something or someone lurks in the shadows…

Satan takes a closer look at the function of illusion in the theatre and pays tribute to the techniques of the ancient oral storytelling tradition, where a performer can move the audience to the most distant places and times and evoke recognition, awe or horror using only his body and voice. We get to know a hero who wants to be a villain but fails. The performance raises several questions about ethics and truth, and what it means to tell a story on stage – isn’t it always just an arranged game?

ABOUT IGGY MALMBORG (SE)

Iggy Malmborg is a performance artist and actor based in Malmö. Although trained in traditional acting, his works span a wide range of aesthetics and styles – both in solo and collaborative work. Iggy Malmborg’s greatest artistic interest is to use performance as a model on which the discourse of the plays can be applied directly. Using strategies comparable to minimalism, he sheds light on the politics of theatre, as a hierarchical machine with (unconscious) patterns of inclusion and exclusion. Over the years, Malmborg’s works have gained international recognition and have been hailed for presenting a complex intellectual discourse in a concrete way, filled with humor and warmth.

MANAGING DISCOMFORT PERFORMANCEFESTIVAL

In the spring of 2024, Toaster and Live Art Denmark present the performance festival MANAGING DISCOMFORT, which includes a number of Danish and international artists whose works have the common denominator that they all deal with discomfort, but process it with care and humor.

The festival stretches over seven weeks and each week two new performances are presented, which are staged as a double-bill at Husets Teater. This means that one ticket gives access to both performances, which are separated by a short break.
