Experience a queer-feminist sonic performance on lactation whilst tasting milky dishes inside Den Frie exhibitions halls. “Depictions travel through the eyes of time, legends echo deep down in our cells – imagine history as a gulping throat reaching through time”.

Tickets: This performance includes a liquid dinner and requires a paid ticket.

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

Water of Life and Domination is a culinary-sonic performance on lactation, a queer-feminist sensorial feast on future realms and the cultural history of lactation by artist Claudia Lomoschitz with gurgling interventions by artist Alex Franz Zehetbauer. Explore the taste of nourishing liquids on your tongue, served as a wet dinner in anthropomorphic ceramic vessels, while seated inside the exhibition halls of Den Frie. Looking at moist power relations, the performance asks how the heteronormative past and imagery on lactation reverberate in today’s body politics. Which sensations are inscribed in your body? The performers liquify narratives by sharing nourishments, stories, songs, and scores. Join this liquidized performance and experience a live sonic play, while tasting nutritious and plant-based milky courses.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Claudia Lomoschitz is working together with performance artists Alex Franz Zehetbauer with whom she previously collaborated on the video work Lactans. Claudia Lomoschitz is a research-based artist, film maker, and choreographer who combines video, text, and performance to create tactile, counter-normative spatial settings. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where she works as lecturer. She holds an MA in Performance Studies from the University of Hamburg and studied at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen.

Alex Franz Zehetbauer creates performances, sonic choreographies, and songs. His ear-worm melodies live somewhere between avant-pop and medieval-plainsong and his lyrics oscillate between the earnest and the absurd. He studied vocal performance, choreography, acting, and composition at the Experimental Theater Wing at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and the International Theater Workshop in Amsterdam.

PERFORMANCE BULLETIN

Den Frie and Toaster presents the upcoming performance festival The Performance Bulletin, which will take place June 5-8 2025. Together with Danish and international performance artists, we investigate how situational performance pieces can introduce alternative ways of engaging and experiencing contemporary art.  Formed by artistic actions that disrupts our attention and opens the senses, the program asks what kinds of imaginations can be activated through embodied, situated, and processual performances.

The program is based on close collaborations with artists, who experiment with everything from feminist openings of symbols and monuments in the city, to collective dance ecstasies, vocal performances, joints dinners, performative explorations of the city’s infrastructure,s and traffic hubs, to as well as performance pieces that slow down the paste pace and enhance our sensitivity. Improvisation and movement are central forces in the program, which experiment with access and negotiate of the use of the public space. Celebrating the unexpected, indeterminate, and estranged impulse of performances, the program tests public attention and social processes by the happening of art.

The program is curated by Iben Bach Elmstrøm in close collaborations and dialogue with the artists and the, Toaster and Den Frie curatorial teams. The program is generously supported by New Carlsberg Foundation, Bikuben Foundation, Danish Arts Council and Roskilde University.
