Artist Talk Va-Bene Fiatsi
Free Entrance
Va-Bene Fiatsi will give an introduction to her work as an artist and activist for queer rights in Ghana. In the later years, the anti-LGBTQ+ powers in Ghana and other African countries have grown stronger; a development which is unfortunately connected to a political turn to the extreme right in many western countries.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born 1981 in Ho, Ghana, Va-Bene Elikem Fiatsi [ aka crazinisT artisT] is a trans woman. She currently lives in Kumasi, Ghana but works internationally as a multidisciplinary “artivist”, curator, philanthropist and mentor.
With rituals and a gender-fluid persona, crazinisT employs her own body as a thought-provoking tool in performances, confronting issues such as injustice, violence, objectification, internalised oppression, anti blackness, systemic indoctrination and many more.
The Artist Talk is part of Managing Discomfort and the rest of the program starts at 8 PM:
MARIA METSALU: The Well
TEO ALA_RUONA: Lacuna
MANAGING DISCOMFORT PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL
16 international and Danish performance works push the audience out of their comfort zones and activate discomfort in the spectator rows. But more importantly, they explore how we collectively handle discomfort.
MANAGING DISCOMFORT is for hardcore performance fans and for those not yet familiar with the field! The festival spans over seven weeks, with two new performances presented each week, performed as a double bill at Husets Teater. This means that one ticket grants access to both evening performances. Additionally, VR works by Danish and international artists will be installed in the foyer, along with a series of workshops with the international performers, providing an opportunity to get up close with their methods and thoughts.
PERFORMANCE WITH VA-BENE ELIKEM
Saturday 2.March, you are invited to join her participative performance ritual “Kall for Healing” in FRIISLAND, Kattegatvej 39, Nordhavn, from 3-5 PM. Also for free.
