what if this was the only world she knew is a series of performance art works begun in 2018. Part III draws on the possibilities of virtual reality in which small, strange actions loop, repeat and occasionally reverse. It uses eggs and a glittering green sequined gown, both recurring motifs in O’Reilly’s work, to posit a surreal dimension within the solid world the viewer sits within.

ABOUT KIRA O’REILLY (UK)

Kira O’Reilly (b. 1967) is an Irish artist currently based in Helsinki; her practice employs performance, sculpture, biotechnical practices, writing and experimental media. The origins of her artistic working are in the profound materiality and mutability of sculpture meeting radical feminist performance art as it emerged from the confluence of visual arts, experimental performance and media art, subcultures and body politics in the early ‘90s. She makes, writes, teaches, mentors and collaborates with humans of various types, technologies and non-humans of numerous divergences.

MANAGING DISCOMFORT PERFORMANCEFESTIVAL

In the spring of 2024, Toaster and Live Art Denmark present the performance festival MANAGING DISCOMFORT, which includes a number of Danish and international artists whose works have the common denominator that they all deal with discomfort, but process it with care and humor.

The festival stretches over seven weeks and each week two new performances are presented, which are staged as a double-bill at Husets Teater. This means that one ticket gives access to both performances, which are separated by a short break.
